So looking at the the first page of work on your art page I see that almost all of your work is done in pencil and looks very unfinished. It's harsh to say but this is not portal worthy stuff. Your drawings aren't bad at all, they do have personality and the ones that I have looked at have some interesting poses going on, but you need more complete pictures, right now as stated they're all pencil with very minimal shading, their value scales are not very extreme and the handful that I looked at have a ton of white space. These aren't finished pieces, they're refined sketches. Throw some color on them or some ink or if you want to stick with pencil get some more contrast in there, really go hard with the linework and shading, give it some pop and give them some backgrounds. You can do it, it's just a matter of taking the time to. The art portal should be a showcase of your best work so put your best foot forward. Hope that helped in some capacity.

Lookin' very groovy. Loving the colors, they're dong a great job along with the style to send home 'far out' nature of the drawing. I do think the gems in it's hands could do with a color change though, right now I think they're a little too close to the hands (the outlines appear to be the same color) I think they'd be better suited as yellow like the eyes and the background jazz. Also maybe go with a snappier font for this one, the current one doesn't do a lot of justice to your groovy goat guy. Overall great job though!

I love this painting. Everything about it is very well executed and rendered excellently. The blue wavy/overlapping strokes in the background do a great job of contrasting with the solid polished red of the lips which in turn make those white teeth really pop. The sprinkles on the tongue are just a huge bonus that add a ton of personality to the piece, great job. The only issue I have is the crookedness of the pic, also I'm not so sure I like what I assume is a red wall behind it, I'd have to see it without to judge whether it detracts from the red of the lips or adds to them. None the less great job.

Ah wow!! Thanks so much for your review! I'm glad that you like it and yes, the picture is crooked, but that's my bad, haha.

Alright, a few issues going on here. Most notably the cropping of the image could be better, bring the bottom edge up more or continue the guy to the bottom don't just cut it off like that, it looks awkward. Second the red aura isn't really adding anything to the drawing, if you're going to give a character an aura like that it should factor more dynamically into the shading of the character the glow from the light should bounce off of his jacket. But I suppose it is necessary to separate the character from the background - bringing me to the next point - your background. This is a very grey picture, you should make your character stand out more from the background, probably play up the snow factor some more because right now the sky, the ground and the guy's jacket are all almost the same tone.

Last point - I'm pretty sure this is in some capacity traced or copied, it looks a lot like a live trace on illustrator because of the way the shadows and highlights are done on the jacket, I know for a fact that the face is from Disturbed's mascot, also the stylistic disconnect between the character and the background as well as it and your other pieces points to this not being completely original; I apologize if it is, but if it isn't you should really take this one and any other traced/filtered pieces down.

None of my drawings are traced. I drew majority of them on a 10 inch tablet

Awesome job on this. Great use of that intense perspective and muted colors. I am very impressed with the way that you utilized the entire canvas; none of it seems empty or wasted

Great work on this one, man. This background suits the look way better than the other one that turned into its own thing (which is also awesome by the way). The colors are wonderfully chosen and the whole thing is beautifully done. The contrast in shading and colors is a real treat for the eyes and beautifully compliment the dark and surreal nature of the drawing. The only issue I take is that the three projected eyes don't really match the quality of the rest of the piece, the middle eye's is a little asymmetrical and the edges could be crisper but overall fantastic job.

Sockembop responds:

Thanks a lot. When I started drawing this I wasn't completely sure how I was going to paint it and at first it was going to be much simpler. I was going to draw the whole thing looking more 2D with shaky lines and less dramatic lighting. Once I had painted everything else I wasn't sure how I wanted to paint the projected eyes that would fit in the painting and still look like what they were supposed to. I should have done them differently.

Man, this is one awesome painting. The lack of definition on the mushroom man makes it all the more awesome how he just sort of oozes in and out of his body. The colors in the background are just awesome. Great work.

Very nice. I really like this drawing, it's got a lot of unique things going for it. It's not often you see ballpoint work in the portal and to see it this well done is a real treat; you get more out of that pen than most people can get out of multiple pencils. Plus its nice to see some characters that deviate from the usual stuff the portal produces (either Western or Japanese style characters). he detail in her costume is very impressive as is the shading and anatomy. Normally I'd make a note of the lack of background but what is here is presented so well that it transcends it. Great job, man.

Thanks you very much for such a nice review ^_^

Awesome, man this is definitely a big step in the right direction. The colors are crisp and the shading is looking good. Overall this is a great concept drawing, giving it a very clean and complete look. However the Jake Jaeger's arms look to be out of proportion with each other. Anyhow I would love to see you expand on the idea, maybe mash posters from the two franchises together. All in all up the good work, man.

Yeah, something like that.
